With over 15 years of leadership and management experience, she has managed hundreds of nurses throughout her career and is deeply passionate about mentoring healthcare professionals, supporting their growth, and helping them discover their purpose within the field of nursing and mental health care.
Karyn is widely recognized for her commitment to compassionate, patient-centered, and trauma-informed care. As the only certified Perinatal Mental Health medical provider in the area, she is a strong advocate for vulnerable populations and works tirelessly to reduce stigma surrounding mental health and substance use disorders. She specializes in perinatal substance use disorders and partners closely with county navigation teams to improve access to evidence-based care and support for pregnant and postpartum individuals and families.
She is also an innovator in the perinatal substance use disorder space, providing trainings and implementing programs that promote Medication for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) during pregnancy, with a strong emphasis on harm reduction and whole-person care.
In addition to her work in perinatal mental health, Karyn partners with residential treatment centers and detox facilities throughout the region to provide psychiatric care and support for individuals navigating substance use and recovery. She also owns and operates a private telehealth practice, providing mental health services across California and Washington State.
Karyn serves on the California Board of Directors for Postpartum Support International and is the organization’s specialized coordinator for Perinatal Substance Use Disorders. Her work focuses on advocacy, education, collaboration, and improving systems of care for individuals and families impacted by mental health and substance use challenges.
In addition to her clinical work, Karyn is a professor in the RN program at College of the Desert, where she is passionate about helping shape the next generation of nurses through mentorship, education, and real-world clinical guidance.
Karyn is excited to join the team at the new CWIC and looks forward to continuing her mission of providing compassionate, accessible mental health care to the community she has proudly served for decades.
Outside of her professional roles, Karyn is a proud mother of three children and one stepdaughter, two of whom are following in her footsteps in healthcare. Her passion for advocacy, education, harm reduction, and trauma-informed care continues to guide her work every day.
