Senior Behavioral Health Advisor

 

Dr. Gaurav Mishra is a board-certified Child, Adolescent & Adult Psychiatrist, a health systems design expert and a physician leader. He has more than 11 years of experience serving communities along the US-Mexico border in Imperial and San Diego counties of California. Most recently he served for more than six years as the Chief Behavioral Health Officer at San Ysidro Health, a large Federally Qualified Health Center. He has implemented innovative behavioral health programs including the SAMHSA Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic [CCBHC] clinic for patients with serious mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorders, reproductive mental health services, Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health [IECMH], Youth Opioid Response [YOR], and Medication-Assisted Treatment - Prescription Drug and Opioid Addiction [MAT-PDOA] programs. Between March and July 2021, Dr. Mishra provided critical leadership and implementation support for an Office of Refugee Resettlement [ORR] project. He oversaw the delivery of all mental health services to over 3,200 unaccompanied minors who had been separated at the US Mexico border and housed at the San Diego Convention Center. During his work, he helped integrate urgent care and primary care services and assisted in training non-clinical staff who cared for minors. He coordinated services with several federal agencies, like ORR, ACF, Public Health Corps, and SAMHSA, in addition to several state, county, and city-level agencies and local CBOs. 

As part of his clinical work he currently sees patients at the SD County Juvenile Hall facility, and serves as the Chief Medical officer for Mindhealth Wellness. Dr. Mishra serves on the San Diego County Behavioral Health Advisory Board and the advisory board for refugee and migrant mental health at the SAMHSA RMTAC center.
